April 24th, 2025<\/strong> \u2013 Ocergy, Inc. and Detect, Inc. are pleased to announce the first phase of their cooperation and the successful deployment of the MERLIN\u2122 Bird and Drone Detection Radar System on Ocergy\u2019s BLUE ORACLE Buoy. The radar was installed in early April and will remain operational on the buoy located 30 km east of Port la Nouvelle throughout the bird migration season across the Gulf of Lyon migratory corridor.<\/p>\n

Early results have been extremely encouraging, demonstrating that the enhanced stability of the OCG-Data\u2122 platform is crucial to the accuracy of bird tracking measurements. The Merlin\u2122 radar data acquisition system is functioning flawlessly, with real-time data availability through Ocergy’s proprietary SCADA & data management system.<\/p>\n

\u00ab\u00a0This collaboration represents a significant advancement in offshore bird migration monitoring technology,\u00a0\u00bb said Gary Andrews, CEO of DeTect. \u00ab\u00a0The combination of Ocergy\u2019s inherently stable OCG-Data\u2122 offshore buoy with our Merlin\u2122 advanced radar technology creates an ideal solution for gathering precise avian data.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis marks the first successful deployment of a bird radar on a low-cost dedicated floater in a far offshore location,\u00a0\u00bb said Dominique Roddier, CEO of Ocergy. \u00ab\u00a0This groundbreaking achievement enables us to collect crucial bird migration data in the actual areas used for offshore wind developments.\u00a0\u00bb<\/p>\n

This joint project aims to validate the coupled system, collect critical data on the European bird migration patterns, which will inform environmental impact assessments for offshore developments, and deepen our scientific understanding of avian migratory behaviors.<\/p>\n
