Marine Systems Engineer

Description

The Marine Systems Engineer will be responsible for mechanical and piping systems and outfitting design at Ocergy. The position will support the company’s offshore floating technologies, during the various stages of development as well as during project execution. It will include conceptual design, as well as interface activities with third party contractors in later design phases and operational planning support.

Job Description:

The positions responsibilities will include :

– Carry out conceptual design and issue a design basis for specific systems – including piping systems and related equipment, power requirements, instrumentation and control requirements

– Carry out sizing calculations for marine systems and optimize existing systems 

– Developing and issuing system and equipment specifications in compliance with offshore design codes and applicable international standards. 

– Reviewing third-party developed specifications relating to system outfitting and approve or comment appropriately to enable efficient re-work.

– Identify acceptable system components, or approve third-party component selection(s), during procurement activities.

– Designing marine system layouts and producing associated design drawings and MTOs.

– Independently take responsibility for R&D relating to marine system designs in development 

– Effectively communicate system design decisions with various project stakeholders
– Develop O&M plans for onboarded marine systems on unmanned offshore platforms
– Collaborate on design decisions and design requirements with other engineering disciplines
– Develop analytical tools as required to support ongoing projects and R&D.

Requirements

Successful candidate will:

  • 2 to 5 years of industry experience relating to the design of marine systems. A background that additionally includes system operational experience (field experience) in either the offshore or shipping industry’s is strongly preferred.
  • Minimum Bachelor of Science in Marine Engineering, Naval Architecture, Mechanical Engineering, or equivalent degree with relevant industry experience in fluid piping, heat balance and/or HVAC system design.
  • Have extensive experience designing for IACS offshore codes (ABS, DNV, etc.) and other applicable international standards, guidelines, and recommended practices.
  • Proficiency with CAD drawing and modelling software, preferably AutoCAD & SOLIDWORKS
  • Proficiency with programming languages such as Python, MATLAB, or similar
  • Write clear design reports, specifications, and methodologies.
  • Communicate clearly and effectively in English, in a remote working environment.
  • Candidate must be authorized to work in the US

The position offered is for full-time remote employment, with the employee required to reside within the U.S. This position has the potential to accommodate flexible work hours with the understanding that stakeholder support may require meetings to occur outside of normal business hours due to varying time zones.
There are no specific business travel requirements to support this role. Travel to support projects, industry engagement, professional development, and team meetings are handled on a case-by-case basis.
